Macronome is a calorie and protein tracker made by Sidejar Holdings ApS, Denmark ("we"). This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we do not sell it, we do not show ads, and you can delete everything from inside the app.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, or the email Apple shares when you use Sign in with Apple.
- Profile: gender, age, height, weight, goal and activity level. We use these to calculate your calorie and protein targets.
- Your log: the foods you log (name, grams, calories, protein, time) and the weights you log.
- Food photos and descriptions: only when you use the scan feature, and only after you agree in the app. See below.
Health data
Your profile, food log and weight log are health-related data. We process them only with your explicit consent, which you give when you create an account, and only to run the app for you. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
If you connect Apple Health, the app reads your active energy to show calories burned and writes the weights you log. Calories burned stay on your device and are not sent to our servers. We never use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing, never sell it, and never store it in iCloud.
Food scanning and AI
When you scan a meal or a nutrition label, or describe a meal in text, the photo or text is sent through our server to Anthropic (the maker of the Claude AI model) to estimate calories and protein. We do not store your photos. Anthropic processes them under its commercial terms and does not use them to train its models. Results are AI estimates and can be wrong, which is why you review them before anything is logged.
Barcode lookups and food searches are sent to Open Food Facts, an open food database. We send only the barcode or search words, nothing about you.
Who processes your data
- Supabase hosts our database and sign-in, in the EU (Ireland).
- Anthropic (United States) analyzes scans, as described above. Transfers rely on standard contractual clauses.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, Apple Health and the App Store.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or track you across other apps and websites.
This website
This website uses Google Analytics to count visits. The app itself contains no analytics or advertising trackers.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Deleting your account (Settings, Delete account) permanently removes your account, profile, food log and weight log from our servers.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can access, correct, export or delete your data, and object to or restrict how we use it. Most of this you can do in the app. For anything else, email us. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet).
Children
Macronome is not for children under 13.
